Tech Men Earn First GSC Weekly Award

Johnie Davis became the first Arkansas Tech men’s basketball player to receive a Gulf South Conference West Division player of the week award this season when the league office announced its weekly honors on Wednesday, Feb. 2.

Davis (photographed), a junior guard from Canton, Ohio, averaged 25.5 points per game in Arkansas Tech victories over Harding and Ouachita Baptist last week.

He was 16-of-31 from the field — including 10-of-14 from 3-point range — while helping the Wonder Boys grab sole possession of first place in the GSC West Division.

For the season, Davis ranks fifth in the GSC in scoring at 15.9 points per game.

He has increased his production since the start of conference play. Davis has reached double figures in scoring in all six of the Wonder Boys’ GSC games and he is averaging 19.7 points per outing in league action.

Nationally 15th-ranked Arkansas Tech (15-3 overall, 6-0 GSC) will go for its 10th consecutive win when the Wonder Boys host Henderson State at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 3.

Admission to Tucker Coliseum will be free for those with a valid Tech identification card. Tickets will be available at the door for the general public.
