Tech Leads GAC All-Sports Trophy Standings

Arkansas Tech University holds down the No. 1 spot in the inaugural Great American Conference All-Sports Trophy standings through the end of the winter sports season.

Arkansas Tech surged to the top of the standings on the strength of its regular season GAC championships in men’s and women’s basketball.

Institutions earn points for the GAC All-Sports Trophy based on their performance in sports sponsored by six or more member institutions.

Arkansas Tech earned 18 points during the fall sports season (cross country, football and volleyball) and 18 points during the winter sports season (men’s and women’s basketball) for a total of 36 points thus far.

Harding University is in second place with 33.5 points.

Ouachita Baptist University (3rd, 31 points), Henderson State University (4th, 24.5 points), East Central University (5th, 23.5 points), Southwestern Oklahoma State University (6th, 22 points), the University of Arkansas at Monticello (7th, 20 points), Southeastern Oklahoma State University (8th, 17.5 points) and Southern Arkansas University (9th, 17 points) round out the standings entering the spring sports season.

Final regular season standings determine the points in sports with a round-robin schedule. In sports that do not have such a regular season structure — sports such as cross country, men’s golf and women’s golf — the postseason conference championship event is used to determine points allocation.

The inaugural GAC All-Sports Trophy will be awarded to the institution that has the most points at the end of the spring sports season. Institutions will have opportunities to earn points in baseball, men’s golf, women’s golf, softball and women’s tennis between now and the end of the academic year.
