Tech Golf Teams Dominate in Texarkana

Arkansas Tech University swept the men’s and women’s team championships at the 10th annual Mulerider Invitational, which was hosted by Southern Arkansas University at the Texarkana Golf Ranch in Texarkana, Texas, on Monday and Tuesday.

The Wonder Boys returned team scores of 297 and 294. Their 591 total was good for a 23-stroke victory among a field of six men’s teams.

The Golden Suns also posted a convincing first-place finish. Arkansas Tech’s women shot 329-328 for a 657 total and a 14-stroke win over a field of six women’s teams.

Arkansas Tech’s Jack Garrett captured the men’s individual title. He fired rounds of 73 and 69 for a 2-under par score of 142. He finished three strokes clear of the field.

Slade Hames (5th, 74-76-150), Graham Rucker (T-6th, 75-76-151), Parker Hale (9th, 75-79-154) and Jason Purdy (T-10th, 82-73-155) also contributed to the Wonder Boys’ team victory.

Elizabeth Sweetnam (3rd, 83-80-163) was the Golden Suns’ top individual finisher.

Megan Jeffery (T-4th, 81-83-164), Rebecka Surtevall (T-4th, 85-79-164), Niki Possage (T-9th, 80-86-166) and Megan Kelley (16th, 98-93-191) also competed for the Suns. Arkansas Tech women’s golf team member Taylor Kline (8th, 83-82-165) competed as an individual.

The Wonder Boys and the Golden Suns will compete in the Natural State Golf Classic at Heber Springs on Monday, April 9, and Tuesday, April 10.
