Tech Fishing Club Dominates ULM Invitational

Teams representing the Arkansas Tech University Fishing Club finished first and third in the 2012 University of Louisiana at Monroe Invitational on the Ouachita River April 14-15.

Arkansas Tech Fishing Club members Evan Smith of Mansfield (photographed, right) and Jordan Mullenix of Mount Ida (photographed, left) won the tournament with a two-day haul of 22.80 pounds, while fellow Tech Fishing Club members Reagan Moore of Dierks and Evan Barnes of Russellville finished third with 20.02 pounds.

A total of 18 teams representing seven institutions — Arkansas Tech University, the University of Arkansas at Monticello, Dallas Baptist University, Louisiana State University at Shreveport, Louisiana Tech University, the University of Louisana at Monroe and McNeese State University — competed in the ULM Invitational.

The performance of the Smith/Mullenix and Moore/Barnes teams helped Arkansas Tech strengthen its hold on the No. 1 spot in the ongoing race for school of the year from the Association of Collegiate Anglers (ACA).  

A total of 132 institutions from around the nation been represented in tournaments during the chase for the ACA school of the year award.

As of the end of the ULM Invitational, Arkansas Tech has accumulated 568 points. Lousiana-Monroe is in second place with 442 points, while the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville is in third place with 430 points.
