Tech Fishermen Win State Championship

Arkansas Tech University Fishing Club members Aaron English and Jake Jacobs have earned a title that many people pursue in a variety of endeavors but few ever attain — state champions.

English (photographed, right) and Jacobs (photographed, left) pulled 11 pounds, 13 ounces of fish out of Norfork Lake to win the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series Arkansas state championship on Sunday, April 22.

English is an electrical engineering major from Dardanelle, while Jacobs is an agriculture business major from Russellville.

“It feels like … I can’t even explain it,” said Jacobs in an interview with www.bassmaster.com. “I was so nervous because we had boat problems, and we barely made it here.”

A traffic accident during the drive from the lake to the weigh-in location delayed the team’s arrival, but when English and Jacobs finally reached the stage they claimed a five-ounce victory over the runner-up team of Jared Kennemer and Paul Lafluer of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

English and Jacobs were not the only Arkansas Tech anglers in the event. Fellow Arkansas Tech Fishing Club members Tony Harrison and Dalton Littleton finished fourth.
