Tech Earns No. 3 Seed in GSC Tennis Tourney

Arkansas Tech will go to the 2010 Gulf South Conference Tennis Tournament as the No. 3 seed from the GSC West Division following a 6-3 Golden Suns’ win over the Henderson State Lady Reddies in the regular season finale on Saturday at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville.

With the win, Arkansas Tech improves to 10-5 overall and 4-2 in league play. It is the Golden Suns’ best GSC record ever, and it is Tech’s best record in conference tennis matches since it finished 11-1 in the Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference in 1995.

Next up for the Golden Suns is the GSC Tournament April 17-18 in Montgomery, Ala.

Tech will face West Florida, the No. 2 seed from the GSC East Division, in the first round.

The nationally 10th-ranked Argonauts (10-7, 3-1) are the defending GSC Tournament champions. They have won 10 GSC women’s tennis championships since 1995.

The Golden Suns are coached by Abby Davis, who has led Tech to three straight GSC Tournament appearances.

The members of the 2010 Arkansas Tech tennis team are juniors Saki Matsuoka, Michelle Yu and Jessica James; sophomore Brittany Turner; and freshmen Meagen Childers, Nina Greenway, Emorie Mallow, Laura Palomino, Jessica Velasquez and Jenny Yu.
