Tech Baseball Above .500 Early

Despite a tough early schedule that has included three games against nationally-ranked teams, the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys are 6-4 through the first 10 games of the 2010 baseball season.

Tech will play six home games over the coming week beginning with a twin bill against Missouri S&T at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24.

Head coach Dave Dawson (photographed) and the Wonder Boys will host Northwest Missouri State for a four-game series at Tech Field on Saturday, Feb. 27, and Sunday, Feb. 28.

Tech’s most recent outing was a 12-6 loss to 23rd-ranked Southern Indiana last Friday.

The Wonder Boys hurt themselves with five errors. Southern Indiana scored five unearned runs in the win.

Arkansas Tech newcomers Nick Makris and Matt Johnson are racking up base hits at a remarkable rate.

Makris is hitting .486 with eight runs batted in and 14 runs scored, while Johnson is hitting .475 with one home run, four RBIs and 13 runs scored.

Senior Josh Floriani, who has been a relief pitcher throughout his first three years on the Tech pitching staff, has found a new home in the starting rotation.

The right-hander from Malvern is 2-0 with a 2.91 earned run average in three 2010 starts. He has notched 21 strike outs against only three walks.
