Tech Alumni Promoted to Captain in U.S. Army

Chase Battle-Smith, Boone Gilbreath, and James Schager, 2008 Arkansas Tech graduates and commissionees of the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program, were recently promoted to the rank of captain of the United States Army.

Captain Chase Battle-Smith was promoted captain on Thursday, July 26. Capt. Battle-Smith, based out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, is a field artillery officer with the 3rd Brigade Combat team of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).  He was deployed in Operation Enduring Freedom.

Captain Boone Gilbreath and Captain James Schafer were promoted to the rank of Captain on Wednesday, August 1st.

Capt. Gilbreath, based out of Fort Carson, Colorado, is an ordinance officer.  He currently serves with the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized). He also deployed in Operation Enduring Freedom.

Capt. Schafer, also an ordinance officer, is based out of Fort Stewart, Georgia.  He serves with the 3rd Sustainment Brigade.  He was deployed to serve twice, once in Operation Iraqi Freedom and once in Operation New Dawn.
