Symposium on Human Migration March 5

Collaborative Solutions, an Interdisciplinary Project Based Learning (IPBL) course at Arkansas Tech University designed to develop critical thinking and communication skills, will host its 2019 symposium on Tuesday, March 5, at 6 p.m.

The symposium is free and open to the public. It will take place in room 300A of ATU’s Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center, 305 West Q Street in Russellville.

Students in the spring 2019 Collaborative Solutions course are exploring the topic of human migration.

Scheduled speakers during the symposium include Father Mauricio Carrasco, pastor of three Catholic parishes in the Arkansas River Valley and a first-generation immigrant from Chihuahua, Mexico; Thomas Engelmann, volunteer with Life After Hate, Inc.; Angela King, co-founder and programs director of Life After Hate, Inc.; Dr. Tanya Tavassolie, post-doctoral research associate at the University of Maryland; and Beth Zilberman, assistant professor in the University of Arkansas School of Law and director of the school’s immigration law clinic.

Collaborative Solutions is made possible through the philanthropy of Bob Dickson, ATU Class of 1968.

The course is taught under the auspices of the ATU Center for Community Engagement and Academic Outreach.
