Symphonic Wind Ensemble Performs Tuesday

The Arkansas Tech University Symphonic Wind Ensemble will make its second concert appearance of the spring 2012 semester at Witherspoon Auditorium in Russellville on Tuesday, March 13.  The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission will be free and open to the public. Christopher Anderson, director of bands and associate professor of music at Arkansas Tech, said that the ensemble’s performance of “Symphony in Bb” by Paul Hindemith will be among the highlights of the concert. “Hindemith’s Symphony in Bb is considered to be a cornerstone work in the wind band literature,” said Anderson. “It helped establish the wind band as a serious medium for art in music.” Other pieces on the program for Tuesday include “Aspen Jubilee” by Ron Nelson, “Hymn to a Blue Hour” by John Mackey, “The Duke of Malborough” by Percy Grainger for brass ensemble and “Petite Symphonie” by Charles Gounod for woodwind ensemble.
