SWOSU Too Much for Wonder Boys

A pair of first-half spurts gave Southwestern Oklahoma State University an insurmountable lead and the Bulldogs went on to a 88-63 Great American Conference men’s basketball victory over Arkansas Tech University at the Pioneer Cellular Events Center in Weatherford, Okla., on Thursday night.

SWOSU (2-1 overall, 1-0 GAC) used a 13-2 run over a span of two minutes to claim a 21-10 edge at the 11:06 mark of the opening half. Markeise Champion made three 3-pointers during the Bulldogs’ surge.

Southwestern Oklahoma State would not relent. It followed up with a 20-4 run to take a 42-18 lead with 1:59 to go in the half. The Bulldogs led 44-25 at halftime and maintained at least a 13-point edge throughout the second half.

Martell Collins and Emeche Wells scored 16 points apiece for SWOSU. Champion added 12 points, Collin Jennings netted 11 points and Nick Shoemaker had 10 points for the Bulldogs.

DeChriston McKinney registered a double-double for Arkansas Tech. He finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Nick Wayman chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.
