Sweeden Named Outstanding Bandsman

Senior Sean Sweeden of Morrilton was named the 2010 recipient of the Dr. Dix Stallings Outstanding Senior Bandsman Award at Sunday’s Collage Concert.

The award is given annually in honor of the late Dr. Dix Stallings to recognize outstanding members of the Arkansas Tech band.  Dr. Stallings was a longtime vice president of development at Arkansas Tech and friend of the music department.  The award is presented each year by his wife Sue Stallings.

Sweeden is a senior music major, and he performs in the Arkansas Tech Symphonic Band, the Chamber Singers, the Concert Chorale, the Arkansas Tech Jazz Ensemble and the Percussion Ensemble.

Additionally, he has served as the drumline captain for two years and written the drum performance pieces.

Sweeden is also the 2008 Concerto Competition winner, and he is a recipient of a Rex Ann Oller Instrumental Music Scholarship.

As the recipient of the Dr. Dix Stallings Outstanding Senior Bandsman Award, Sweeden’s name will be added to a plaque which remains on permanent display in the Department of Music at Arkansas Tech.
