Surtevall Victorious in Spring 2012 Debut

Arkansas Tech freshman Rebecka Surtevall won the individual title at the 2012 Texoma Chevy Dealers Lion Intercollegiate golf tournament on Monday and Tuesday.

Surtevall (photographed) returned scores of 73 and 78 for a 151 total and a three-stroke victory among a field of 113 players.

The 36-hole tournament, which was hosted by Texas A&M University-Commerce, was contested over the 5,803-yard, par-72 course at Tanglewood Resort in Pottsboro, Texas.

Surtevall’s play helped the Golden Suns finish fourth among 20 squads in the team standings. Arkansas Tech had team scores of 329 on Monday and 320 on Tuesday for a 649 total.

Only Tarleton State (1st, 312-319-631), West Texas A&M (2nd, 318-318-636) and Central Oklahoma (3rd, 320-324-644) finished in front of the Golden Suns.

Arkansas Tech finished well ahead of fellow Great American Conference members Harding University (10th, 349-325-674), East Central University (T-13th, 351-349-700), Southwestern Oklahoma State University (15th, 361-347-708) and Ouachita Baptist University (20th, 382-393-775).

Niki Possage (T-25th, 85-80-165), Elizabeth Sweetnam (T-28th, 85-81-166), Megan Jeffery (T-32nd, 86-81-167) and Alyssia Duvall (T-75th, 89-91-180) helped the Golden Suns to their fourth-place finish.

Arkansas Tech will continue its spring 2012 women’s golf schedule when it competes in the Dave Falconer Memorial Classic at Chamberlyne Country Club in Danville on March 26-27.
