Arkansas Tech University freshman Rebecka Surtevall opened play in the 2012 NCAA Division II Super Region 4 Women’s Golf Championship by posting a first-round 76 at Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, Ariz., on Sunday.
Surtevall shot 4-over par 40 on the front nine, but she battled back to shoot even-par 36 on the back nine.
The Stockholm, Sweden, product made seven consecutive pars from holes 10 through 16. She bogeyed the par-3 17th hole before finishing with a birdie at the 516-yard par-5 18th hole to complete the day at 4-over par.
Surtevall stands in a tie for 20th place among a field of 49 players after the first of three rounds.
Tarleton State’s Jacqueline Lau is in first place after she shot 4-under 68 on Sunday.
The NCAA Division II Super Region 4 Women’s Golf Championship will continue through Tuesday, May 8.
