Three Arkansas Tech University women’s golf team members finished in the top six of the individual standings to lift the Golden Suns to a runaway victory in the team standings at the 2016 Southern Bancorp Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
Arkansas Tech posted team scores of 296-302 for a two-day total of 598, which was 17 strokes better than its nearest competition among a 12-team field at Big Creek Golf and Country Club in Mountain Home.
Tech’s Caroline Fredensborg won the individual title. She fired rounds of 70-72 and finished at 2-under par 142. Her Golden Suns teammate, Anna Frandsen, shot 73-73 and finished second with a 36-hole total of 146.
Pia Nunbhakdi of Arkansas Tech also secured a top-10 finish. She returned scores of 76-78 for a 154 total. Nunbhakdi finished tied for sixth.
Avery Struck (T-11th, 77-81-158) and Jessica Sachs (T-20th, 82-79-161) also contributed to the Golden Suns’ team championship.
Arkansas Tech’s Samantha Patrico (T-17th, 80-80-160) and Laura Gallizo (T-20th, 76-85-161) competed in the tournament as individuals.
The Golden Suns will participate in the Spring Regional Preview at Springfield, Mo., on April 11-12.
