Suns Get Back on Track With Shutout Win

Kelly O’Malley notched a season-high 14 kills as Arkansas Tech defeated the Arkansas-Monticello Cotton Blossoms 25-14, 25-12, 26-24 at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Thursday night.

The Golden Suns (19-4 overall, 4-1 Gulf South Conference) out-hit UAM .347 to .090 as Arkansas Tech bounced back from its loss to Christian Brothers earlier this week.

O’Malley made just one attack error in 24 attempts and finished the match with a .542 hitting percentage.

Sarah Von Lienen hit for an even higher percentage, notching 11 kills against one error in 17 attempts for a .588 hitting percentage.

Kera Dukic made 37 assists and six digs, Brennae Benda recorded 16 digs and Laura Farney (photographed) added three kills, five digs and two blocks.

Ashlynn Hamrick and Carly Florian added seven kills apiece for Arkansas Tech.

MacKenzie Hubbard led UAM (1-17, 0-5) with seven kills.

The Golden Suns will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 12, with a 7 p.m. GSC match at Henderson State.
