Suns Step Out of GAC Play Monday Night

Nationally 13th-ranked Arkansas Tech will take a break from Great American Conference women’s basketball action by hosting the Missouri Western Golden Griffons for a 5:30 p.m. contest at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Monday, Feb. 6.

Promotional ticket prices of $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens will be in effect. Those with a valid Arkansas Tech identification card will be admitted free of charge.

“Missouri Western is a tough team that plays in a good league (the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association),” said Tech head coach Dave Wilbers. “They needed a game, and of course we’re always looking for home games. This time of year, we need to play games. It would be tough to take a week off and just practice and condition. I’d rather play games.”

The Golden Suns (14-3) have won five of their last six games, including a 77-76 victory at Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday. Katie Horsman scored a career-high 23 points and Samanta Ludwig (photographed) had a career-high 22 points for Arkansas Tech.

Missouri Western (6-14) stopped a five-game losing streak with a 90-78 win over Fort Hays State on Monday, but the Golden Griffons dropped an 83-73 decision at Missouri Southern on Saturday.

Jessica Koch averages 23.2 points per game for Missouri Western. She ranks third this season in NCAA Division II in scoring.

Radio station KWKK 100.9 FM will broadcast the game.
