Suns Split Non-Conference Doubleheaders

Arkansas Tech went 1-1 in a pair of non-conference softball doubleheaders over the weekend.

The Golden Suns defeated Missouri Southern 7-5 in game one of a twin bill at Lea Kungle Field in Joplin, Mo., on Friday.

Alicia Zack went 2-for-5 with three runs batted in for Arkansas Tech. Siarra Gomez had two base hits, while Maurie Lewis, Natalie Magie, Ashton Long and Cassady Haworth all drove in one run.

Victoria Huie pitched a complete game for the Golden Suns to earn her fifth victory of the season.

Missouri Southern came back to win the nightcap 3-2 on Shelby Romines’ walk-off two-run double in the eighth inning.

Arkansas Tech returned home to the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville on Sunday and defeated Lincoln University 3-2 in game one of a doubleheader.

Haworth delivered what proved to be the winning run with an RBI single that brought Huie home in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Huie (6-4) made the 3-2 lead stand up by pitching around a lead-off single and holding Lincoln scoreless in the top of the seventh. Huie struck out five over seven innings of work.

Lincoln pitcher Clair Lorenz led the Blue Tigers to a 2-1 victory in game two on Sunday.

Lorenz held the Golden Suns to just one unearned run on six hits in seven innings.

Lincoln took advantage of two Arkansas Tech errors to score both of its runs in the top of the fifth inning.

The Suns had their chances to come back during their final three at-bats, but Arkansas Tech stranded six runners on base from the fifth through the seventh inning.

The Golden Suns (11-13) will visit Southeastern Oklahoma State for a four-game Great American Conference series in Durant, Okla., March 24-25.
