Suns Softball Extends Win Streak to Four

Arkansas Tech University earned two neutral-site, non-conference wins in Bentonville on Saturday.

The Golden Suns (5-3) will face Texas A&M University-Commerce for a 3 p.m. non-conference doubleheader in Commerce, Texas, on Wednesday, Feb. 13.

Game One: ATU 9, Missouri Western 1

Gaby Vasquez’s fourth-inning grand slam gave Arkansas Tech the lead for good in a 9-1 victory over Missouri Western State University.

The blast over the center field fence gave the Golden Suns a 5-1 edge.

ATU starting pitcher Megan Goodnight (2-0) steered it home from there, limiting the Golden Griffons to one run on five hits over six innings.

Paty Loredo added two runs batted in for the Golden Suns.

Game Two: ATU 4, Fort Hays State 1

Goodnight delivered a three-run home run that propelled Arkansas Tech past Fort Hays State University 4-1.

The Tigers led 1-0 until Goodnight sent a 1-1 pitch over the left-center field fence in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Sydnie Henson’s RBI single one inning later set what proved to be the final score.

Kristen Dempsey (2-0) held Fort Hays State to a single run on eight hits in six and one-third innings. Bailey Shaffer recorded the final two outs for her second save of 2019.
