Suns, RiverHawks Split Softball Twin Bill

Arkansas Tech went 1-1 against the Northeastern State RiverHawks in a non-conference softball doubleheader at Tahlequah, Okla., on Wednesday.

Northeastern State handed the Golden Suns their first loss of the season 7-5 in game one, but Tech bounced back to win the nightcap 3-2.

Shelbi Bowen went 2-for-3 with two home runs and five runs batted in to lift Northeastern State to its game one victory.

The Suns needed an extra inning to win game two. Roxie Palacios drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice bunt in the top of the eighth.

Northeastern State (1-3) advanced the potential tying run to third base with one out in the bottom of the eighth, but Tech pitcher Morgan Rodgers got a strike out and a pop out to end the threat and the game.

Rodgers went the distance in the circle in game two. She struck out five and walked none while improving to 2-0 on the season.

The Golden Suns (5-1) are scheduled to participate in the Decatur Chillout Tournament in Decatur, Ala., Friday through Sunday.
