Great American Conference coaches believe that Arkansas Tech University will have the second-best women’s cross country team in the league during the conference’s inaugural season.
The Golden Suns received six second-place votes, one third-place vote and one seventh-place vote in the preseason GAC women’s cross country poll, which was released by the league office on Monday.
League head coaches voted in the poll, but they were not allowed to vote for their own teams.
Arkansas Tech accumulated 50 points in the voting, while the Harding Lady Bisons received seven first-place votes and a total of 63 points to earn the title of preseason GAC favorite.
East Central University (3rd, 49 points), Southwestern Oklahoma State (4th, 44 points), Ouachita Baptist (5th, 32 points), Henderson State (6th, 28 points), Southeastern Oklahoma State (7th, 21 points), Southern Arkansas (8th, 20 points) and Arkansas-Monticello (9th, 17 points) rounded out the preseason poll.
Arkansas Tech’s cross country program is directed by head coach Tom Aspel, who has served in that capacity since 1994.
