The Golden Suns (28-4 overall, 9-1 Gulf South Conference) are one match in front of Harding University (14-10, 8-2) in the GSC West Division standings. Both teams have two matches remaining during the regular season.

Harding is at Henderson State on Tuesday night and it will host Ouachita Baptist on Thursday. Arkansas Tech will host Henderson State on Thursday.

The Golden Suns’ magic number to win the GSC West title outright is two. Any combination of Arkansas Tech wins and Harding losses adding up to two would give the Suns the outright GSC West title in their final year as a member of the conference.

Arkansas Tech will join eight other institutions — Arkansas-Monticello, East Central (Okla.), Harding, Henderson State, Ouachita Baptist, Southern Arkansas, Southeastern Oklahoma State and Southwestern Oklahoma State — in a new NCAA Division II conference beginning with the 2011-12 academic year.

The Golden Suns won the GSC West Division volleyball title in 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2008. Arkansas Tech was Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference volleyball champion in 1983, 1984, 1985 and 1987.

Tech will look to clinch a share of its ninth regular season volleyball crown against a UAM team that is 3-25 overall and 0-10 in GSC play. The Cotton Blossoms snapped a six-match losing streak with a victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday.

The Golden Suns defeated UAM 25-14, 25-12, 26-24 at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Oct. 7.

Arkansas Tech will enter Tuesday’s contest on a 10-match winning streak. The Golden Suns have won 23 of their last 24 matches.
