Suns Go 1-1 on Final Day in Memphis

Arkansas Tech University split volleyball matches against a pair of former conference foes during the second and final day of the Christian Brothers University Invitational in Memphis, Tenn., on Saturday.

The Golden Suns (3-1) defeated West Georgia 25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 25-16, but Christian Brothers slipped past Arkansas Tech 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23 later in the day.

Now a member of the Great American Conference, Arkansas Tech previously shared a league affiliation with UWG and CBU in the Gulf South Conference.

Kaci Jackson’s double-double of 13 kills and 10 digs led the Golden Suns to victory over West Georgia. Sara Motsinger had 12 kills and five blocks, Brittany Ryan made 11 kills and three blocks, Amber Cerrillos notched 48 assists, 13 digs and seven service aces and Morgan McKellar recorded 14 digs in the win.

Hannah Kurtz led Christian Brothers (4-0) past Arkansas Tech with 19 kills and just two attack errors in 35 attempts.

Jackson made 16 kills and 12 digs in the loss. Stephanie Channell (12 kills) and Kaitlyn White (11 kills) also reached double figures in kills for the Golden Suns. Cerrillos had 42 assists and McKellar chipped in 25 digs.

Arkansas Tech will play its first home matches of the 2012 volleyball season when it hosts the Hampton Inn Golden Suns Spikefest at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Friday, Sept. 7, and Saturday, Sept. 8.

Tech will face Lindenwood University (11:30 a.m. Friday), the University of Arkansas at Monticello (7 p.m. Friday), McKendree University (1 p.m. Saturday) and the University of Central Oklahoma (5 p.m. Saturday) during the event.
