Suns Finish 45th Among Elite Field

Arkansas Tech challenged itself by competing in one of the top annual collegiate cross country meets in the country — the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville — on Saturday, Oct. 16.

Going up against a field that included the likes of Oklahoma State, Indiana, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Auburn, the Golden Suns finished 45th among a 56-team field.

Arkansas Tech was 14th among non-NCAA Division I members. The Suns finished in front of fellow Gulf South Conference members West Florida, Delta State and Christian Brothers.

Cheryl Nolan was the Golden Suns’ top individual finisher. She was 179th among a field of 469 women with a time of 19 minutes and 0.2 seconds over the 5-kilometer course.

Kaitlin Bounds (234th, 19:22.26), Lauren Karnitz (327th, 20:08.86), Ashley Perisho (372nd, 20:45.44) and Amanda Bradbury (392nd, 21:11.36) also ran for Tech in Fayetteville.

Arkansas Tech will continue its 2010 cross country season on Saturday, Oct. 23, in the Bison Stampede at Harding University in Searcy.
