Suns Finish 16th at MSSU Stampede

Even with one of their top runners out due to injury, the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns were able to finish 16th among a field of 36 cross country teams at the Missouri Southern State University Stampede in Joplin, Mo., on Saturday.

The Golden Suns accumulated 411 team points. NCAA Division I member University of Tulsa swept the top five spots in the individual standings and won the meet with 15 points.

Michelle Pollreis (photographed) was Tech’s top individual. She completed the 5-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 21.28 seconds to finish 25th.

Cheryl Nolan (30th, 18:31.77), Kaitlin Bounds (88th, 19:30.96), Lauren Karnitz (139th, 20:15.58), Amanda Bradbury (188th, 21:07.98) and Ashley Perisho (196th, 21:21.40)  also ran for the Golden Suns in Joplin.

Tech was without the services of 2009 Gulf South Conference freshman of the year Bailee Miller due to injury.

The Golden Suns will run in the Brooks Memphis Twilight on Saturday, Sept. 25.
