Suns Earn Votes in AVCA National Poll

Arkansas Tech University is among the teams receiving votes in the 2012 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division II preseason poll, which was released on Tuesday, Aug. 14.

The Golden Suns earned five points in the poll, which is voted on by a panel of NCAA Division II volleyball coaches.

Arkansas Tech is the only Great American Conference member listed in the AVCA news release concerning the preseason poll.

Head coach Kristy Bayer led the Golden Suns to a 35-4 overall record, the inaugural GAC regular season championship, the GAC Tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament during the 2011 volleyball season.

“I am proud to be honored by my coaching peers as one of the top teams in NCAA Division II,” said Bayer. “This is just the start. We have to keep working hard to move up the poll and live up to our expectations.”

The No. 1 team in the AVCA NCAA Division II preseason poll is Concordia-St. Paul, which has won five consecutive NCAA Division II volleyball national championships. The Golden Bears return four AVCA All-Americans from a team that was 34-2 overall last season.

The first regular season AVCA NCAA Division II poll of 2012 will be released on Sept. 3.
