Suns Clinch Share of GAC Tennis Title

Arkansas Tech University is a conference champion in women’s tennis for just the second time in school history.

The Golden Suns clinched at least a share of the inaugural Great American Conference women’s tennis regular season championship by defeating East Central University 8-1 in a league match at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex on Friday.

Arkansas Tech’s only previous conference title in women’s tennis came in 1995, when the Golden Suns won the final Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference championship.

With the win over ECU, Arkansas Tech improved to 13-5 overall and 5-0 in the GAC.

Head coach Abby Davis and the Golden Suns can clinch the GAC title outright with a win over Henderson State on Friday, April 13.

First serve is set for 2 p.m. Friday at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex. Admission will be free and open to the public.

Before they host Henderson State, the Golden Suns will step out of league play on Tuesday, April 10, for a 3 p.m. match at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
