Suns Clinch GAC Volleyball Title Outright

Arkansas Tech University clinched the 2015 Great American Conference volleyball championship outright on Thursday night with a 25-17, 25-17, 25-20 victory over Ouachita Baptist University at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville.

McCall Wilkins and Katie Huff made 10 kills apiece for the Golden Suns, while Hunter Eshnaur added nine kills. Sarita Stegall notched 37 assists. Kaci Jackson (14 digs), Madison Nagel (13 digs) and Colleen Wooten (12 digs) led Arkansas Tech’s back row defense.

The title is the 12th regular season volleyball conference championship in Arkansas Tech history. Tech previously won regular season conference volleyball titles in the Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference (1983, 1984, 1985, 1987), the Gulf South Conference West Division (1997, 1999, 2000, 2008, 2010) and the GAC (2011 and 2014).

The Golden Suns (25-6 overall, 15-1 GAC) will be the No. 1 seed in the GAC Tournament, which will be played Nov. 19-21 at Bank of the Ozarks Arena in Hot Springs. Arkansas Tech will face Southeastern Oklahoma State University in the first round at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19.
