Suns Advance to GAC Volleyball Semifinals

Arkansas Tech University is two wins away from a return trip to the NCAA Division II Volleyball Tournament.

The Golden Suns defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State University 26-24, 18-25, 25-14, 25-21 in the opening round of the Great American Conference Tournament at Bank of the Ozarks Arena in Hot Springs on Thursday night.

With the win, Arkansas Tech (26-6) advances to face Southern Arkansas University (19-13) in the GAC Tournament semifinals at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, in Hot Springs. The match will be streamed live at www.gacsportsnetwork.com.

Katie Huff made 14 kills, Hunter Eshnaur had 13 kills and seven service aces and Kaylee Konsella notched 11 kills for the Golden Suns. Sarita Stegall was credited with 39 assists, while Kaci Jackson contributed 11 digs.

Southeastern Oklahoma State ended its season with an overall record of 7-23.

The winner of the Arkansas Tech-SAU match will face either Southern Nazarene University or Southwestern Oklahoma State University in the GAC Tournament championship match at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21.

The GAC Tournament champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, an event the Golden Suns have participated in three times in the last four years.
