Students Volunteer Over Break

Ten Arkansas Tech students are in the Big Easy this week helping others during an alternative spring break experience.

The students are in New Orleans volunteering with The Phoenix of New Orleans (PNOLA) to help repair homes destroyed during Hurricane Katrina.

This is the second year Arkansas Tech students have worked with PNOLA, and it’s the third year Arkansas Tech students have volunteered rebuilding homes in the Crescent City.

PNOLA is a non-profit organization that provides rebuilding assistance to the people of New Orleans, and so far, the organization has helped more than 70 families return to their homes.

Students participating in the alternative spring break say they’ve assisted with a variety of tasks including painting and carpentry.

The students will return home Friday evening, and while in New Orleans, they will also have the opportunity to tour parts of the city.
