Students Gain Real-World Skills With Drones

Arkansas Tech University students from the Department of Emergency Management utilized the latest technology to practice the skills necessary for a search and rescue mission during an exercise in the Tucker Coliseum parking lot on Saturday, Nov. 19.

Students were able to fly drones equipped with thermal locating technology, which was used to find individuals who were portraying various scenarios of being lost and/or injured. Students also assisted in mock recoveries.

The exercise was performed under the guidance of Arkansas Tech Department of Emergency Management faculty members, representatives from the Russellville Fire Department and members of Pope County Emergency Medical Services.
