Students Compete in Bass Fishing Championship

Six Arkansas Tech students are on Lake Lewisville near San Antonio this week to compete in the BoatU.S. Collegiate Bass Fishing Championships.

Anglers Kyle Brookshear, Quinton Glover, Dustin Huggins, Evan Barnes, James Frank and Lucas Madison make up the three teams that will represent Arkansas Tech in a field of more than 300 competitors.

The teams will practice on the lake today and tomorrow before the competition begins on Thursday.

Following today’s practice, the anglers will have the opportunity to participate in Cabela’s Collegiate Bass Fishing Day.  During the event the Tech anglers will get the chance to meet professional bass anglers including Denny Brauer, Jeff Kriet, Mike McClelland and Kelly Jordon.  Additionally, each Arkansas Tech team will receive a $100 Cabela’s gift card.

Beginning on Thursday, all 330 teams will hit the water at safe light, and the weigh-ins each day will begin at 3 p.m.

The anglers are competing for more than $90,000 in scholarships, prizes and product giveaways at this year’s championship event.

The tournament is being filmed and will air this fall on the Versus network as part of the BoatU.S. Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship television series.

Daily updates from the water will be available throughout the competition at www.collegiatebasschampionship.com.
