Students Brave Cold Water to Support Hospital

Nearly 40 Arkansas Tech students jumped into the cold water at Lake Dardanelle earlier this week to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital works to save the lives of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.

So far the students participating in the polar bear plunge have raised $400 for the hospital by purchasing t-shirts and collecting donations.  Organizers say the students are still collecting money, so the total raised could be even higher.

The first polar bear plunge at Arkansas Tech took place back in 2005 as a resident assistant program.  The polar bear plunge has grown each year and has become an annual tradition.

The polar bear plunge now serves as a fundraiser to support a nonprofit organization.
