Area youngsters are exploring the world of science this week as the second Community Science Network Camp is underway this morning.
Dr. Robin Lasey, assistant professor of chemistry at Arkansas Tech and camp director, says the annual camp helps teach area youngsters about the vast world of science.
Lasey adds, “Students who attend science camp learn that science is fun. They also learn to ask questions about how the world around them works.”
This year’s camps focuses on the human body, and those attending the camp are able to participate in numerous hands-on activities throughout the week.
During the camp, the participants are divided by age group, an each group works to complete a variety of activities during the camp.
Lasey says a certified teacher leads each classroom of students, and there is also an aide to assist in the instruction.
Lasey says she had the idea to host the camp a few years ago as a way to ensure both of her children were exposed to all that science had to offer.
