Storm Spotters Class Offered Tonight

The Arkansas Tech Department of Emergency Management is hosting a Skywarn Storm Spotter class available to the campus and community.

Tonight at 6:30 p.m., the public is invited to attend a free weather training class in Witherspoon Auditorium.

The training opportunity is open to law enforcement, emergency managers, HAM radio clubs and any citizen who wants to be educated about storms and how to help.

Students in the class will experience a multimedia presentation to learn about severe storms, how they develop and how to inform the National Weather Service (NWS) of severe weather.

Participants will receive a card containing tips for weather spotting and NWS contact information.

Additionally, each student will be awarded a certificate declaring they are official Skywarn Storm Spotters with the NWS for five years.

The class was originally scheduled for February 13, and was rescheduled to Friday, March 16, due to inclement weather.

The class is sponsored by KARK Channel 4 News in conjunction with the US National Weather Service in Little Rock, Pope County Storm Spotters and the Department of Emergency Management.
