Still Rolling: Suns Win Sixth in a Row

Shelby Jo Fenter made big plays with her arm in game one and a big play with her feet in game two as the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns swept a Gulf South Conference softball doubleheader from the Henderson State Lady Reddies at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville on Saturday.

Arkansas Tech won by scores of 2-0 and 5-4 as it extended its winning streak to six consecutive games.

The Golden Suns (18-11 overall, 9-1 GSC) and the Lady Reddies (15-20, 9-5) will play another doubleheader at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex beginning at noon Sunday. Radio station KCAB 980 AM will have live play-by-play coverage.

Fenter (photographed) tossed a three-hit shutout and struck out 11 in game one on Saturday. She improved her pitching record this season to 7-4.

Alicia Zack’s RBI double in the bottom of the third and Hayley Hudson’s solo home run in the bottom of the fourth provided Tech with its runs.

Game two came down to the bottom of the sixth inning when Fenter scampered home with the winning run on a Tiphani Moon RBI ground out.

Fenter’s run put the Suns in front 5-4. Tech relief pitcher Amy Horne came on to get the final three outs in the seventh and preserve a one-run Suns’ victory with her first save of the season.

Alex Doyle (7-6) earned the win in game two. She surrrendered four runs, three earned, on four hits in six innings.

Fenter was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Moon had two RBIs in the nightcap.
