Spring Plant Sale Begins This Weekend

Residents of the Arkansas River Valley looking for a little touch of spring need look no further than the Arkansas Tech Greenhouses and the Arkansas Tech Agri Club’s spring plant sale on April 16-17 and April 19-20.

The sale will begin on Friday, April 16, and Saturday, April 17, from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

Shoppers will have two more opportunities to visit the plant sale on Monday, April 19, and Tuesday, April 20, from 1-4 p.m.

Dr. Jim Collins, professor of horticulture at Arkansas Tech, said that this year’s sale will include varieties of flowering bedding plants, tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelons, squash, pepper transplants, azaleas, flowering hanging baskets and geraniums.

The annual event is a fund-raiser for the Arkansas Tech Agri Club, which was founded in 1932.

“All of this greenhouse work is student-oriented with proceeds going back into the greenhouses and for Agri Club activities and scholarships,” said Collins. “The old greenhouses were torn down three years ago and we have four brand-new greenhouses west of the old ones. There will be plenty of signs directing shoppers to the new ones.”
