Spots Available for Summer Culinary Camp

There are still spots available for a summer culinary institute hosted by the Arkansas Tech University Department of Parks, Recreation and Hospitality Administration. The institute, which is open to girls in grades 9-12, will take place June 8-12. Chartwells is sponsoring the institute, and it will take place at Chambers Cafeteria. There is no cost to participate, but only 50 participants will be accepted. Over the course of the week, participants will learn about the culinary profession and have the opportunity to spend time in the kitchen preparing several dishes. The institute will meet daily from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. during the week of the camp. At the conclusion of the camp, participants will have an opportunity to showcase the skills they have learned during a celebration event for friends and family. Susan West, assistant professor of hospitality administration at Arkansas Tech, said the program helps participants understand all that a career in the field entails. “We are excited to be working with Chartwells again on this summer institute,” said West. “The program gives the participants a unique opportunity to learn more about this profession, and the participants really enjoy the experiences they have throughout the week. Participants will study under volunteer female chefs from around the state. Friday, May 22 is the deadline to register to attend.
