The Arkansas Tech University chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists was trained on enhancing the quality and reliability of news shared on social media during a seminar on Jan. 25.
The Facebook Journalism Project was launched in 2018 by Facebook and SPJ. A network of professionals has been trained to teach a seminar entitled Facebook Tools for Journalists at conferences, workshops and newsrooms. The anticipated outcomes of the project, according to information shared by SPJ, are the dissemination of quality journalism through Facebook and engaging the public in examples of community journalism.
The session at ATU was led by Lynn Walsh, who has practiced television journalism on a national level and locally in California, Ohio, Texas and Florida. She is past national president of SPJ and serves as the project manager for the Trusting News project, which works to rebuild trust between journalists and the public.
