The Arkansas Tech University Spirit Squads captured first place in the 2016 Wonder Week canned food sculpture contest sponsored by Enactus.
The Arkansas Tech Cheerleaders and Golden Girls combined to create a their idea of a doghouse for Jerry the Bulldog, campus ambassador, using canned food items.
Sculptures were built inside the Doc Bryan Student Services Center Rotunda during Wonder Week, which ran from Feb. 15-18.
Chemistry Club won second place and Tau Beta Sigma earned third place in the competition.
Winners were announced at halftime of the men’s basketball game between Arkansas Tech and Henderson State on Feb. 18.
In all, the contest collected 680 canned food items. They will be delivered by the Because We Can registered student organization to local food pantries in an effort to assist the food insecure in the Arkansas River Valley.
