Spikes' Final Round 68 Helps Tech Take 3rd

Jonathon Spikes matched the low round of the tournament with a 3-under par 68 on Tuesday to help the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys finish third in the Natural State Golf Classic at the Red Apple Inn and Country Club in Heber Springs.

The Wonder Boys returned team scores of 293 on Monday and 296 on Tuesday for a 589 total. North Alabama ran away from a 12-team field with a two-day total of 565. Henderson State (291-297-588) was the runner-up.

Arkansas Tech has now finished in the top three of all four of its spring 2010 tournaments.

The Wonder Boys won the Henderson State Invitational, finished second at the Ouachita Baptist Invitational and took third place in both the North Alabama Spring Classic and the Natural State Golf Classic.

Spikes (photographed), a senior from Danville, shot 73-68 for a 36-hole score of 1-under 141 and a share of third place in the individual standings.

Drew Richards (T-8th, 70-76-146), Ryan Hitt (T-12th, 71-77-148), Jared Black (T-33rd, 79-76-155) and Colton Dillard (T-39th, 81-76-157) also contributed to Arkansas Tech’s team score on Monday and Tuesday.

Parker Hale (T-14th, 74-75-149), Graham Rucker (27th, 77-75-152) and Kyle Barton (T-47th, 76-83-159) represented the Wonder Boys as individuals only.

Arkansas Tech’s next event is the Gulf South Conference Tournament at Hot Springs Country Club. The men’s portion of the tournament will be played on Monday, April 19, and Tuesday, April 20.
