Golden Suns, Savage Storm Split Twin Bill

Arkansas Tech and Southeastern Oklahoma State split a non-conference softball doubleheader at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville on Friday.

The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns (6-4) won the opener 3-1, but the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm (11-5) took the nightcap 8-3.

Amy Kilpatrick was 2-for-3 and delivered the go-ahead RBI in Arkansas Tech’s 3-1 victory in game one.

Southeastern Oklahoma State took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Christa Johnson stole home.

The Golden Suns broke through with Alicia Zack’s RBI single in the bottom of the third. Jessica Fields scored to make it 1-1.

Two batters later, Kilpatrick delivered a single to center field that brought Shanda Jimeson (photographed) home with the go-ahead run.

Arkansas Tech pitchers Alex Doyle and Shelby Jo Fenter took it from there.

Doyle (3-1) started in the circle and allowed one unearned run on five hits in five innings of work. She struck out two and walked two.

Fenter surrendered just one hit while striking out four in two innings of relief.

Tiphani Moon provided the Suns with an insurance run by driving in Jimeson with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.

Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Jeana Keyes and Sam Vrska led the Savage Storm to their 8-3 win in game two.

Keyes was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple two RBIs and two runs scored. Vrska was 3-for-3 and scored three runs.

Kilpatrick and Hayley Hudson had two hits apiece in a losing cause for the Golden Suns. Tech’s Molly Edwards drove in two runs and Jimeson hit a solo home run.

The Golden Suns will host Northeastern State (Okla.) for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex on Saturday, Feb. 26.
