Softball Suns Respond on Day Two in Durant

Arkansas Tech University’s softball team might have been knocked down on day one of its trip to Southeastern Oklahoma State University, but the Golden Suns did not stay there long.

ATU (10-10 overall, 4-4 Great American Conference) defeated the Savage Storm 20-2 and 8-0 on Saturday afternoon in Durant, Okla.

The sweep came 24 hours after Southeastern Oklahoma State (7-11, 5-3) took both ends of Friday’s doubleheader by topping the Golden Suns 6-5 and 4-1.

Arkansas Tech now ranks fifth in the GAC in both team batting average (.293) and team earned run average (3.59).

Tech’s Megan Goodnight leads the conference in base hits (29), and she ranks second in the league in total bases (47). Her teammate, Ashton Sangster, has a GAC-leading five triples in 2019.

The Golden Suns are scheduled to host East Central University (7-10, 3-5) for a four-game GAC series on Friday, March 8, and Saturday, March 9. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday. Admission to the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex will be free.
