Softball Suns Make History With Ranking

Arkansas Tech University has achieved the highest national ranking in the 14-year history of its softball program.

The Golden Suns (12-1 overall, 4-0 Great American Conference) are ranked No. 6 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division II top 25 poll released on Wednesday, Feb. 24.

Arkansas Tech achieved its first national softball ranking and climbed as high as No. 12 in the NFCA poll during the 2015 season. The 2015 Golden Suns went on to finish 41-22 overall and make the first NCAA Division II Tournament appearance in program history.

Early-season wins over a number of NCAA Division II Central Region teams at the Southeastern Shootout and the UAM 8-State Classic have lifted the 2016 Golden Suns to a level of national prominence never before experienced by Arkansas Tech softball.

Head coach Kristina McSweeney and the Golden Suns will host defending GAC champion Henderson State University (9-5, 2-2) for a four-game league series at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville this weekend.

First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26, and noon on Saturday, Feb. 27. Admission will be free.
