Softball Suns 2-1 Saturday in Wichita Falls

Game 1: Arkansas Tech 9, Eastern New Mexico 4 Victoria Huie’s bat and right arm were critical for the Golden Suns in a 9-4 victory over the Eastern New Mexico Zias on Saturday morning. Huie went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and pitched five innings. She allowed four runs on 10 hits while striking out five to improve to 2-3 in the circle this season. Arkansas Tech’s Shanna Davidson pitched two scoreless innings in relief for her first save as a Golden Sun. Davidson also hit a two-run home run. Brittany Watson added two RBIs for Arkansas Tech. Game 2: Arkansas Tech 14, Midwestern State 4 The Golden Suns exploded for seven runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to a mercy rule-shortened 14-4 win over the Midwestern State Mustangs on Saturday afternoon. Siarra Gomez was 2-for-2 with two home runs and three RBIs. Davidson also drove in three runs, while Whitney Robinson was 2-for-4 pair of RBIs. Ashton Long, Ashley Keen, Natalie Magie and Cassady Haworth added two hits apiece for Arkansas Tech. Robinson (1-0) pitched a complete game for the Suns. She allowed four runs, two of which were earned, on six hits over five innings. Game 3: Texas A&M International 7, Arkansas Tech 5 A quick start by Texas A&M International University was too much for Arkansas Tech to overcome in a 7-5 Dustdevils’ victory on Saturday night. TAMIU scored four runs in the top of the first inning and three more in the top of the fourth to open a 7-1 lead. The Golden Suns rallied for two runs in the bottom half of both the fourth and sixth innings to pull within 7-5, but that was as close as they could get. Tech’s Gomez went 3-for-3 with three home runs and five RBIs in a losing effort. ]]>
