A fundraiser for the 14th Annual Pope/Yell County Single Parent Scholarship will be held this weekend.
The shrimp and catfish fest will be from 5-7:30 at the First United Methodist Church in Russellville.
The meal, catered by Conway Catfish House, includes all you can eat peel and eat shrimp, catfish, chicken tenders, potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw, hush puppies and ice cream sundaes. Take out is available.
Tickets for the fundraiser are $20 per person over the age of 13 and $10 for children between the ages of 7 and 12. Children 6 and under can eat free with a paying adult.
A silent auction will be open at the dinner. Bidding ends at 6:30 p.m.
All proceeds from the dinner and auction will be used to fund scholarships. Funds raised will be matched by the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund. Organizers say the group would like to increase the number of awards offered this year.
During the past year, 40 scholarships were awarded to single parents in Pope and Yell counties, many of whom attended Arkansas Tech. The total amount awarded was more than $32,000.
The scholarship motto is “helping education become an expectation, not an exception, for single parents and their children.”
