Severe Weather Alert for Tuesday, Wednesday

The National Weather Service has notified the public of the possibility of severe weather in western Arkansas during the overnight hours on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, and on Wednesday, April 27, 2016.

Strong to severe thunderstorms may impact the Arkansas Tech University campuses in Ozark and Russellville. In an advisory, the National Weather Service office in Little Rock states that “large hail and damaging winds would be the primary concern,” and that “a tornado or two is possible, mainly during the day Wednesday.”

Arkansas Tech students, faculty and staff are encouraged to review the severe weather procedures outlined on the Department of Public Safety website.

In addition, each building at Arkansas Tech has designated shelter zones for use during severe weather events. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the designated shelter zones in the campus facilities they visit on a regular basis. Maps showing the shelter zones are prominently displayed in campus buildings.

Students, faculty and staff may register with the Campus Emergency and Outreach Notification (CEON) system to receive alerts when tornado warnings are issued for areas that include the Arkansas Tech campuses.
