The National Weather Service has notified the public of the likelihood of severe weather in western Arkansas during the morning hours on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015.
A line of strong thunderstorms formed in Oklahoma overnight and is expected to impact the Arkansas Tech University campuses in Ozark and Russellville before noon on Tuesday. Heavy rain and damaging straight-line winds are anticipated to be the greatest threats.
Additionally, Pope County is under a tornado watch until 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Arkansas Tech students, faculty and staff are encouraged to review the severe weather procedures outlined on the Department of Public Safety website.
In addition, each building at Arkansas Tech has designated shelter zones for use during severe weather events. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the designated shelter zones in the campus facilities they visit on a regular basis. Maps showing the shelter zones are prominently displayed in campus buildings.
Students, faculty and staff may register with the Campus Emergency and Outreach Notification (CEON) system to receive alerts when tornado warnings are issued for areas that include the Arkansas Tech campuses.
