Severe Weather Alert for Sunday, April 27

The National Weather Service is predicting severe weather in Arkansas on Sunday, April 27, 2014. The NWS Storm Prediction Center outlook for Sunday states that “several tornadoes and very large hail will be possible.” The overwhelming majority of the state, including Russellville and Ozark, is listed as having a moderate risk for severe weather on Sunday. Arkansas Tech students, faculty and staff are encouraged to review the severe weather procedures and tornado procedures outlined on the Department of Public Safety website. Should the Arkansas Tech campus in Russellville and/or Ozark be included in a tornado warning, information will be posted at this site: http://www.atu.edu/emergency/index.php. In addition, each building at Arkansas Tech has designated shelter zones for use during severe weather events. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the designated shelter zones in the campus facilities they visit on a regular basis. Maps showing the shelter zones are prominently displayed in campus buildings. “Preparedness in advance of severe weather saves lives,” said Joshua McMillian, chief of the Arkansas Tech Department of Public Safety. “Together, we can be ready to take the appropriate actions in the case of an emergency.”
