Severe Weather Alert for Monday, May 9

The National Weather Service has notified the public of an enhanced threat of severe weather in western Arkansas during the evening and overnight hours on Monday, May 9.

Strong to severe thunderstorms may impact the Arkansas Tech University campuses in Ozark and Russellville. In an advisory, the National Weather Service office in Little Rock states that “damaging winds and hail will be the primary modes of severe weather,” and that “isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out within the enhanced risk area.”

Arkansas Tech students, faculty and staff are encouraged to review the severe weather procedures outlined on the Department of Public Safety website.

In addition, each building at Arkansas Tech has designated shelter zones for use during severe weather events. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the designated shelter zones in the campus facilities they visit on a regular basis. Maps showing the shelter zones are prominently displayed in campus buildings.

Students, faculty and staff may register with the Campus Emergency and Outreach Notification (CEON) system to receive alerts when tornado warnings are issued for areas that include the Arkansas Tech campuses.
